Lyndsey Maher  ND, MSAc

Dr. Lyndsey Maher is the founder of and clinic director at Soleil.

She is a naturopathic doctor, from which she received her doctorate from the University of Bridgeport College of Naturopathic Medicine (UBCNM), and a Master’s of Acupuncture, from which she received from the University of Bridgeport Acupuncture Institute (UBAI).

When I graduated from the University of Arizona, I had received my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. I always thought I would become a lawyer or a politician; something other than a career in medicine, that was my cousin’s [Christina] dream.

However, I found myself coincidentally working at a local medical school as an administrative assistant. I was always the kid who read for fun growing up, so when the learning stopped, I knew I needed to get moving on my actual career path.

I picked up every graduate school study guide - GRE, LSAT, GMAT - you name it, because my thirst for knowledge and “more” was starting to gnaw at me. It wasn’t until I had gotten sick with one of those sinus infections that I used to get as a kid. When I called, the nurse practitioner at my doctor’s office told me I need to wait it out and see if it got worse, and then they would see me. Her only suggestion was to consider using a neti pot, but nothing else.

My google acumen served me well when I found some suggestions. Spoiler alert: I did kick it - but it took some time. After that, I searched for a way to make this my future career and thus I found The AANP - American Associated of Naturopathic Physicians - and learned of UB. Essentially, the rest is history.

When she is not pouring her heart and soul into her practice and patients, she enjoys spending time with her long-time significant other and their working line German Shepherd Dogs, Xander and Gigi - one of Xander’s puppies. She recently took up golf and enjoys the humility it brings to keep her grounded both professionally and personally.

She is an active board member with the Connecticut Naturopathic Physician Association (CNPA) and co-chairs the membership committee with the pursuit of member retention and acquisition to foster the interrelationships of the CT-licensed NDs.

Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

  • Fertility Acupuncture

Given the various phases of a woman’s ovulatory cycle, when trying to conceive, it is important to ensure support of optimal functionality for each.

This means that receiving weekly acupuncture sessions to capture these various phases is a suggested treatment approach in the setting of trying to conceive. This is also ideal for those individuals who are preparing for conception in the future.

To my patients considering acupuncture to assist in their reproductive journey: it is recommended that you also consider naturopathic medical services as well. While this does not have to be with Dr. Lyndsey, it is highly suggested in achieving optimal results and outcomes.

  • Mental Health

One of the most impactful ways acupuncture can help is in the realm of mental health. The modality of acupuncture is helpful for balancing the body’s energy, or Qi, by attempting to achieve homeostasis.

While you certainly have the next 60 minutes to decompress and relax, the needles will be strategically placed to help with the racing thoughts, the insomnia that ensues, and the emotional instability that can arise from our day-to-day and circumstances.

Because acupuncture needles are placed topographically on the body, they will not interfere with any psychoactive medications you may be prescribed; but rather potentiate their benefits.

    - Acupuncture, like certain medications, is best prescribed with regularity to achieve maximal efficacy
